Group Insurance Scheme

Note from Chairman

As previously reported in the Autumn Retired Lines newsletter, the BTP Federation has allowed NARBTPO members to piggy-back onto their Group Insurance Scheme. The Scheme appears to be very competitive but it is of course a matter for individual members to decide whether the offering is appropriate for them. The information set out below explains the policies in detail and the method of commencing the policy if any member makes a decision to do so.

Note from Insurance Brokers

Officer Insurance Cover is part of Everywhen, the UK’s largest insurance broker.

Explanatory notes regarding Cruise Travel

Cruise Cover

We are pleased to confirm that cruise holidays are covered under your travel insurance policy.

Cruise Coverage Summary

Your policy includes protection for cruise travel, including:

Medical & Repatriation Cover

If you require hospital treatment on dry land during a cruise, the policy covers reasonable travel and accommodation costs to rejoin the cruise or reach its final destination.

Missed Cruise Departure

If you miss the cruise departure due to strike, adverse weather, mechanical breakdown, or other events beyond your control, the policy covers additional travel and accommodation expenses to catch up with the cruise.

Cancellation or Curtailment

Cover is provided for irrecoverable costs if your cruise is cancelled or cut short due to illness, injury, death, redundancy, jury service, or other insured events, including COVID-19.

Travel Delay

Compensation is available for delays exceeding 12 hours due to covered events affecting your cruise departure.

Personal Baggage & Money

Loss, theft, or damage to personal belongings during the cruise is covered, subject to policy limits.

Catastrophe Cover

Additional travel and accommodation expenses are covered if you are forced to leave pre-booked accommodation due to a major natural disaster.

Calling Ports – What You Should Know

While calling ports (scheduled stops during a cruise) are not directly covered, the policy may apply in the following situations:

  • Covered:
    • If you miss a port due to a medical emergency and need to rejoin the cruise — covered under Section 4.
    • If a pre-booked excursion at a port is missed due to illness or trip curtailment — may be covered under Section 1.
    • If a natural disaster or quarantine affects a port and forces evacuation — covered under Section 13.
  • Not Covered:
    • Missed ports due to late returncruise itinerary changes, or personal reasons.
    • Missed entertainment or general activities at ports.
    • Routine changes made by the cruise operator (e.g. skipping a port due to weather) are not covered.

Cabin Confinement Due to Illness

If you are confined to your cabin due to illness:

  • Medical treatment and trip curtailment are covered under Sections 1 and 4.
  • If your illness requires in-patient treatment, you may be eligible for a hospital benefit under Section 5.
  • However, cabin confinement alone, without hospitalisation or additional costs, is not directly covered.

The policy does not provide compensation for loss of enjoyment or missed entertainment due to illness unless it leads to a claimable event.
