WHO WE ARE
Membership of the National Association for Retired British Transport Police Officers is open to retired officers of the British Transport Police, retired civilian staff who worked in connection with the British Transport Police and the widows, widowers, or surviving civil partners of former members of the Force.
NARBTPO STRATEGIC STATEMENT & NEW CONSTITUTION
The Management Committee are taking steps to further modernise and develop our Association for the benefit of all our members. The below strategic statement sets out how we hope to move forward over the next two or three years. Please be assured that all our activities will be aimed at improving the member experience.
Our new Constitution was updated following the AGM in May this year and will be the guiding set of rules and objectives for us to work towards.
You may have already noticed the modernised website, which we hope will encourage further interaction with members across the Association. If you have not yet registered onto the site, I can confidently say it is worth the effort.
Improved communication is a key aim going forward and we are always willing to receive feedback and ideas from members.

NARBTPO STRATEGIC STATEMENT
The overall aim of NARBTPO is to support the Community of retired BTP Officers and Police Staff, enhancing their retirement through encouraging continued social engagement with former colleagues and securing benefits for members.
NARBTPO provides a voice for the retired Community and advocate on their behalf in relation to pensions and benefits. It engages with stakeholders and similar organisations to achieve the best possible outcomes.
NARBTPO achieves this aim through working to the objectives contained in the Association Constitution, which are as follows:
- To encourage retired BTP officers, staff, and Special Constables into the Association.
- To foster and maintain friendships formed during active service.
- To establish a means of communication between members relative to their common interests, with particular reference to pensions and travel facilities.
- To endeavour to have Association members elected to the pensioner positions on the British Transport Police Force Superannuation Fund Management Committee.
- To organise social events in accordance with the wishes of the members.
- To obtain financial and other benefits for members wherever possible, e.g., discounted insurances, healthcare, and cruise travel.
- To build relationships with relevant bodies that operate in a way to be mutually beneficial to the Association e.g., other Retired Police Officer Associations, British Transport Police Federation, British Transport Police Superintendents Association, and British Transport Pensioners Federation.
- To continue the relationship as branch members of The British Transport Pensioners Federation and the affiliation with National Association of Retired Police Officers (NARPO)
The Management Committee develops plans to achieve these objectives reviewing progress through its quarterly meetings and the Annual General Meeting held in May each year.
The Association is affiliated with the British Transport Pensioners Federation (https://www.btpf.org/), which represents the rail industry as a whole in matters relating to pensions and free travel.
There are two types of membership available - Full and Associate.
Full membership is open to all retired police officers of the British Transport Police (BTP) and to retired police staff who have served and retired from the BTP.
Full membership is also open to retired officers from other forces who have previously served in the BTP and contributed to a BTP Pension scheme.
Spouses and civil partners of deceased former members of the force may join the Association as Associate members. Associate membership is also open to special constables who have served in the BTP and have retired from their special constable role at a usual recognised police retirement age.
The current annual membership subscription is payable each January:
- NARBTPO Only £10.00
- NARBTPO & NARPO £20.70
- HLM & NARPO £10.70
To join us, please download the membership form and send the completed form to our membership secretary, preferably by email. Anyone who would rather submit the form by post should email the membership secretary to request the appropriate postal address.
Once you have joined the Association, you will be eligible from the following year to become an associate member of the National Association of Retired Police Officers. Details of the NARPO subscription are included in the Association’s annual renewal form, which is issued each December.
