Confirm your personal contact details
Make sure the organisations that will need to contact you after retirement have your personal postal address, email address and telephone number rather than a work address that will stop operating. Keep a secure note of the official contact routes you may need later.
Keep important records
Before leaving, identify the documents you are entitled to retain for personal administration. These may include retirement correspondence, pension references, relevant payslips or tax records and confirmation of important scheme contacts. Do not copy operational, confidential or personal data that you are not authorised to retain.
Understand your pension contact route
Know which organisation administers your pension and how to contact it after retirement. Check how future changes of address or bank details should be reported and where annual statements, tax documents or pension notices will be sent.
Check travel and other arrangements
If you expect to use any post-retirement travel facility or other benefit, check the current eligibility rules, documentation and renewal process. Do not assume that an arrangement available during service automatically continues on the same terms.
Think about digital security
Move any legitimate personal accounts away from a work email address before that address closes. Use unique passwords and two-step verification on important personal accounts. Be alert to pension, investment and impersonation scams that may target people around retirement.
