I joined BTP in June 1976 as a Uniform Constable, later serving as both a Uniform Sergeant and Detective Sergeant in London and the West Midlands. I served as an instructor at Tadworth and later at Ryton District Training Centre near Coventry.
I also served as a Chief Inspector as staff officer to the Chief Constable, Desmond O' Brien and Midland Area before becoming Area Commander Midland Area and for a period at London North before promotion to Chief Superintendent at FHQ.
I attended the 1998 Strategic Command Course at Bramshill and later was promoted to Assistant Chief Constable at FHQ before retiring in 2007.
After leaving BTP, I spent two years as General Manager South for Chiltern Railways until 2009. Later roles included six years as a Lay member with the Bar Tribunal and Adjudication Service. Joined the NARBTPO Management Committee in October 2025.
